About Givenchy

French label Givenchy has been delighting its clientele worldwide for generations - from the Avenue des Champs-Élysées to the Gulf of Mexico. This is mainly due to elegant shapes, clean lines and, last but not least, luxurious quality. This is also reflected in the Givenchy eyeglasses and sunglasses, which are considered a first-class accessory, offering classic looks and rich colours with contrasting nuances. The result: an urban mix of elegant luxury and Parisian street style.

Givenchy History

The name behind the label is Hubert James Taffin de Givenchy. Born in 1927, Givenchy inherited his interest in fabrics and cuts from his mother. From an early age, it was clear he had a flair for fashion and trends. At the age of just ten, the young Hubert visited the 1937 World's Fair in Paris, where he fell in love with the fashion metropolis, setting in motion the course of his life.

At just 17, Hubert left his hometown, Beauvais, to soak up the energy of France's capital. There he found much inspiration and renowned designers to whom he submitted his sketches. To increase his chances of gaining a foothold in the fashion industry, he enrolled at Paris's École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. After a bit of a setback when his idol Cristóbal Balenciaga turned him down, Givenchy found his mentor in Jacques Fath, who, along with Pierre Balmain and Christian Dior, was among the fashion elite of the post-war period. After haute couture came alta moda. To be precise, the Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli hired him as artistic director. In this position, he earned his reputation and his creations became objects of desire first in the city of love and later all over the world. He also began designing for one of his most famous clients in this time, Audrey Hepburn, for whom he notably designed the black dress she wore in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

After a few detours, the inevitable finally happened and Givenchy was once again allowed to present himself to Cristóbal Balenciaga. After presenting him with his minimalist and classic designs, the spark finally ignited. This not only resulted in a professional partnership, but also a long-standing friendship, which was consolidated when Givenchy's studio moved to the street where Balenciaga had its headquarters. The French-Spanish dream team presented loose-fitting sack dresses as their joint creation, which finally propelled Givenchy to become one of the most innovative and influential designers of his time. After huge success of his luxurious prêt-à-porter line for women, worn by Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy among others, he decided to also market men's collections under the name Gentleman Givenchy in the late 1960s.

Givenchy Eyeglasses Frames

As products in every category became bestsellers, it was only a matter of time before the luxury brand launched the first Givenchy eyewear collection. "Launch" hits the nail on the head, as the first Givenchy sunglasses and glasses were an instant hit. Today, the label is famous for its classic and understated styles which compliment a range of outfits, from casual to formal. Their take on the current trends of oversized frames, retro styles and aviator glasses is done subtly and elegantly and makes the perfect choice for those who want to follow high fashion without going over the top. Givenchy frames are available in classic colours, from dark havana and tortoiseshell to red and even gold. Our range includes frames from both the Givenchy women and men's collections, as well as many unisex styles that suit all face types. As a general rule, if you have a rounder face opt for a square or rectangle frame. If you have an angular face, opt for a round frame for balance or even a cat eye frame to add a touch of femininity. Whatever you choose, with Givenchy glasses frames it's hard to go wrong.
