The type of side piece that accompanies a frame is crucial to the way it site over the ear. Straight sides are commonly found in sunglasses where the frame grips you just above the ear. Curl behind the ear are typically given to young children who are not used to wearing glasses as the curl reduces the chance of the frame slipping off. Hockey ends are the traditional side piece where the bend occurs just over the ear.
